* Additional Details *

There's 22 proper maps here, with MAP23 being the credits map. There's two bonus maps included in the set in the MAP31/32 slots that are not part of the normal progression but were included as curiosities. MAP31: The Menagerie is a demo map that was included with the resource pack to show off the new decorative items and monsters. MAP32: No Humanity is a blue-colored variant of MAP13: Moonbase Alpha. I had initially planned to create an "evil" version of that map but wasn't able to due to time constraints.

The initial conception of the project was to be a simple moonbase theme taking visual cues from Skillsaw moon maps (Lunatic, Valiant, etc...) and Duke 3D's second episode, Lunar Apocalypse, so those are the main places I looked to for textures. I also grabbed some stuff from various space/cyberpunk themed DBPs (24, 45, 37) and a few minor things picked up from the more recent ones (DBPs 63 & 64). I believe that means some of the textures come from CC4tex, Dark Forces, Gothic and the three Vrack wads. The DBP64 textures obviously come from Doom 64 originally. I also pulled a few things from Mysteries of the Sith, Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, Laser Arena and Mutiny. There's one texture that is taken from Metal Gear Solid, which I made several color variants of.

Later on, I started shifting to a more retro 60s/70s sci-fi look and a lot of the custom textures come from that and were modeled after the set design of Space: 1999. Some graphics were pulled from a Space: 1999 fansite which had seemingly clean images of the walls/tech panels. A lot of these were a bit blurry when brought into Slade, so most of these were completely reworked but there might be some originals left in the resource pack.

The plasma trooper is the "Repeater Zombie" from Realm667 by Ghastly_dragon, Tormentor667, Eriance, Xim and Captain Toenail. I had a look at the Dehacked in Lunatic for the plasma trooper but ended up tweaking things to my liking.

The fat commander and its associated sounds all come from Duke Nukem 3D, as does the vast majority of the props. A notable exception are the four colored columns, which as far as I know, are from Strife. The side view of the space shuttle is also from Duke Nukem 3D, and a shrunken version of it is used as the menu icon graphic. The front and back side views were hastily put together by me using several shuttle craft photos from Google image search as a base. The pickup, lift and slow door sounds are also from Duke 3D (taken from DBP37).

The fast door sounds, the player death, power up and secret are all from the original Star Trek. The stationary shuttle craft prop is the Galileo 7 from Star Trek, made from various reference photos found on the Internet.

The "breaking" sound is a royalty free stock sound grabbed, iirc, from Youtube. The rocket launch sound effect is a missile launch sound taken from SoundBible and created by Kibblesbob: https://soundbible.com/1794-Missle-Launch.html

The INTERPIC graphic is from In Flames' debut album, "Lunar Strain", which the mapset also takes its name from. The TITLEPIC image is a still from the 70's sci-fi show, Space: 1999. The title menu uses SuperCupcakeTactics' DBP37 menu as a base but was modified by me to suit the theme.

The two main fonts used for the various menu graphics are "Rollerball 1975" and "Data 70". The former, obviously, is title font for the 1975 movie of the same name. Data 70 is a famous sci-fi font, mostly known for its use in Space: 1999. I used a bit font variant, called "Data 70 NES" for some of the intermission graphics.

Special thanks to Matt Fright for the armor bonus sprite and BiZ for some flats and for some MIDI editing. The status bar was created by me, matador. The widescreen status bars included in RC2 were created by NightFright.

This wad is dedicated to my grandmother, who passed away during its development. My grandma was always supportive of my creative efforts so I like to think she would've thought Lunar Strain was pretty neat.

If you liked what you played, please consider helping with our future
projects! We could always use mappers, testers, and helpful comments.
